Brief description.

Past december, we have teached the basic course of QGIS, as usual based on a practical approach and guided by a experienced team in urban development projects, CAI CONSULTORES.

We start with a brief theoric introduction to GIS and we get familiar with the QGIS display, addresing then how to handle vector data. We learned to load different data sources, manage symbology and labeling of urban elements on maps on plans.

The handling of coordinates systems, CAD files import and its transformation to GIS files tool most of our time. We explored design tools, similiars to the ones already used on CAD platforms and we focus on enrich shapes with joints and relations.

Geoprocessing and spatial analysis tools allow us to understand the relationships between different urban elements, like buildings, roads and green areas. This is key to perform the environmental impact analysis, risk evaluation and infrastructure planning.

The handling of Digital Elevation Models (DEM) was essential for urban planning, delivering detailed information of the topography of the terrain. Finally, we explored the map composition, specially focused on the mass production of maps through the QGIS Atlas and the handling of dynamic elements of the maps.

From the start, we focus on customise the exercises to the personal needs of every participant. We have enjoyed a participative atmosphere and conductive to the performance of the training, very enrichning and satisfactory, which we hope we will be able to repeat in the future.

The organization of information applying GIS is an improvement over storage in CAD format, considering the capacity that these GIS systems provide for the integration of geospatial data, allowing for more advanced spatial analysis, within the framework of spatial database management.

Trees, hedges, benches, fountains,… it is very useful to have a geographic database where we can store these elements and their location.

Unfortunately, the management of a database of this style, operating directly on it, is quite cumbersome. To facilitate the task of adding, deleting and querying elements to the geographic database, it is particularly useful to have software that allows us to interact with the database in an intuitive way, viewing the elements in their geographic location.

Doing it with a map service would be very laborious and would make it very difficult to have a variety of geographic tools to work with the different layers in which the different elements are structured. Using, on the other hand, a plugin within a GIS software such as QGIS makes it easier to use all the vast collection of tools that this software makes available to us and, in addition, facilitates the development of the required application.

To meet the customer’s needs in the management of the urban inventory of the city council of Pozuelo de Alarcón, a Postgres/PostGIS geographic database was designed and for its management a QGIS Plugin was created that allows to load the elements as layers and apply filters making queries on the database interactively by means of forms, without the need to have knowledge of SQL language.

The plugin allows the loading of landscaping layers such as Trees, Shrubs, and Flowerbeds and other types of elements such as Fountains, water features, urban furniture, etc. Each one with its appropriate typology, just as a tree will be a point, a lawn area will be a polygon.

In addition to adding, deleting or modifying features of the elements, the plugin allows you to assign work orders to different elements. For example, we can set a date to paint a bench, assign an operator, include before and after photos of the action and send an email to the desired addresses when the work order is opened and when it is completed. In addition to assigning work orders to elements, we can also assign them to an entire area or create them without assigning them to any type of geographic entity.

Another feature of the plugin is that it allows the management of users with different levels of access from the plugin itself. Creating new users that can be administrators (full control), users (no control over users) or visitors (viewing permissions), deleting them or changing their level of access to the database.

In addition to the plugin, a first massive data load was performed for the tree layer with about 40,000 elements.

o Mechanical sweeping of roadways.
o Manual sidewalk washing.
o Mechanical street washing.

Brief description:

The works encompassed the sectorization of the itineraries of the different services, the layout of the optimal routes for each of the itineraries taking into account the specific characteristics of each of the services and the generation of individual plans of the distribution of the warehouse and layout of the itineraries for the correct monitoring by the operators.

Customer:

Mapped services:

o Sweepings (manual, maintenance, motorized manual, mechanical, mixed).
o Washing.
o Complementary cleaning of stains, chewing gum, viewpoints or picnic areas, outside of containers, roadways and communication routes.
o Cleaning of green areas
o Brigades of diverse actions
o Other specific services (immediate cleaning, replacement of litter garbage cans, cleaning and painting of litter garbage cans, various actions, etc.).

Brief description:

Work was done on the generation and implementation of a geospatial database, providing the capacity to store and organize the whole set of itineraries in a structured way. Along with this, and due to the large number of plans required, we worked on the automated generation of plans for the correct follow-up of the itineraries by the operators.

Both works were carried out for high season and low season, so the differences in the planning and frequency of services depending on the date on which they were carried out were taken into account.

Customer:

Support was provided in the generation of cartography, review of data collection and layout of routes in the offer for the urban cleaning service in the municipality of Chiclana de la Frontera (Cádiz), using Geographic Information Systems.

Mapped services:

o Sweeping (manual, brigade, maintenance, mechanical, mixed and related).
o Washing (manual, mechanical, mixed and related).
o Weeding.
o Scrubbing.
o Other services (plastering, leaf fall, cleaning of event areas in times of celebrations, etc.).

Brief description:

The works included the review of the data collection (sidewalks, curbs, litter garbage cans, etc.) performed in the field by the client, the sectorization of the itineraries of the different services, the layout of the optimal routes for each of the itineraries taking into account the characteristics of each of the services. Finally, individual plans were generated for the correct monitoring of the itinerary by the operators.

Brief description:

The work encompassed the layout of the optimal routes for each of the itineraries taking into account the characteristics of the machinery and the streets (narrow streets, dirt roads, etc) and the generation of individual plans for the correct monitoring of the itinerary by the personnel.

Brief description:

The work encompassed a field study of the cleaning sector, the sectorization of the itineraries of the different services, the layout of the optimal routes for each of the itineraries taking into account the characteristics of each of the services and the generation of an interactive map, complying with the requirements of the State Contracting Platform, which allows selecting within the same PDF the itinerary in particular for the correct monitoring by the operators.

Customer:

Support was provided in the cartographic generation and routing of the urban cleaning service in the municipality of Las Gabias (Granada), using Geographic Information Systems.
